Brainworms “The best band in the world right now”

March 12, 2007

Well, March 10th, 2007 in Jacksonville Florida ruled.  Brainworms played at Shanty Town in Springfield w/ Tubers, Hadouken, and Roargan.  In route to play SxSW, this was one of only two Florida shows for these cranium crawling annelids – the other being Pensacola.

The band features (ex) members of Stop It!, Ultra Dolphins, Are You Fucking Serious?, Municipal Waste, Snack Truck and Para La Guerra – for any of you who find useful the so-and-so begat so-and-so approach to punk rock.  The music is a pretty odd and abrasive form of punk meets post-hardcore. The link above is to the groups Myspace page.  So listen.  If you like Rites of Spring, Born Against, or Assfactor 4 – you’ll love Brainworms.  But listen to them either way.

The staff at Inertia HQ were diligently being ridiculous enough, as well as ensuring the bartender’s job, to not complete the taking of one photograph of the event.  After a few futile attempts on Myspace’s (have you heard of it?) Bulletin Board to get some people to email us pictures  – we just decided to ask people to tell us what they think of Brainworms.

So check out the fruits of random solicitation.

“Part Ray Mysterio Junior, part ultimate warrior.”
– Mike Morris, of the band Pink Razors.

“Brainworms is what would happen if John Candy was a band.”
– John Martin, of the bands Mouthbreather and Tigershark.

“I love those guys….all of them……every note they hit, every skin the slap, and every hair on Greg’s face…….they are the best band in the world right now……..I wouldn’t say they are under rated…..I would say they are to go down in history no matter what……them and sugar ray at least.”
– Jacob Hamilton, of the bands Environmental Youth Crunch, Tubers, Solid Pony Etc.

“Zach Galifianakis talking about how old he is with a lot of upstroked guitar chords.”
– Treymon, of the band Soulman and Breeze, and the Florida DIY website.

“Brainworms is a 24 hour party bus.”
– Keri, of the band Gomek.

And as if that wasn’t enough, here is an interview with Brainworms done by the fine folks at RVA MAG.

The band’s LP (pictured above) collects the live demo cd-r and “Is It Weird?” cassette  release.  Packaged in full color jackets with clear/black splattered vinyl, limited to 400 copies. After Gainesville’s The Fest, we had 8 copies of this LP in the store, and sold out promptly.  We have since restocked it, as well the CD version – which features live footage from The Fest and Richmond’s Best Friend’s Day.
