Downtown Park(ing)February 22, 2007
The new park on Main Street across from the Library began Tuesday. The dirt lot is going to be transformed into a park. Prior to this, the lot was an empty parking lot where people who couldn’t pay attention to signs got tickets on weekdays. And the lot was always full of library patron’s cars on the weekends. A park is certainly better than a parking garage, but I can’t help but wonder what the City’s master plan is…
A recent Times Union article focuses on some downtown groups working on bringing about some changes and highlighting soem concerns about the downtown area. Metrojacksonville has posted a reponse to the Times Union article here. I first heard about these articles through Urbanjacksonville.info, which should be a frequently visited site for anyone living in Jacksonville.
As far as more “taking downtown parking spaces” news goes – JTA’s BRT plans for downtown, are fully covered by MetroJacksonville. For those who don’t know, those plans include taking up a massive amount of parallel parking spaces on several major downtown corridors and putting bus lanes in their place. I guess that means more people will use the bus?
